As expected Samsung introduced it's iPad Mini and Nexus 7 competitor, the Galaxy Note 8.0.  Aesthetically similar to a blow up Galaxy S3 and featuring a blending of features of both its little brother the 5.5 inch Galaxy Note and its big brother the Galaxy Note 10.1, the Galaxy Note 8.0 features S-Pen functionality, a 1280 x 800 screen and is powered by a quad-core ARM Cortex A9  processor running at 1.6GHz.  Other tech specs include a 5mp rear camera and 1.3mp front, dual-band 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, GPS, GLONASS, and Bluetooth.

The Note 8 will also feature phone capability on some models and features improved versions of S-Pen apps such as dual-viewing mode which allows you to use two apps side by side.  The Note 8 also features IR Blaster which allows you to control your television.  Pricing hasn't been announced but it is expected to be competitive with the iPad Mini in the low $300  range, while a bit more expensive than the Nexus 7.   Engadget got some hands on time with the Galaxy Note 8.0 which you can see below.
